Great food wine that is stocked at most of South Africa's leading Italian restaurants, including Cape Town favourites Mastrantonio Il Leone and Wijnhuis.

SUPER ROSSO, which means super-red in Italian, refers in name to the new breed of bold, non-traditional wines made by innovative Italian producers. Many of these wines have achieved cult status despite being labelled ‘Vino da tavola’ or simple ‘table wine’ by authorities.
THE HISTORIC REFERENCE
When these Bordeaux-style wines were released, Italian authorities forced producers to declare that the wine was “Table wine” or “Vino da Tavola” – the lowest quality appellation in the area. However these new wines were clearly far superior to the traditional Chianti wines. They found their way on to the international auction markets in London where they soon commanded far higher prices than the regular Tuscan wines . These “Superior” or Super Tuscan wines, made from Bordeaux varietals, changed the Italian wine landscape, even though they went by the simple “table wine” status. Today some of the very best Italian wines are Super Tuscan wines, using either 100% Bordeaux varietals grown in and around Tuscany, or they are blends of Bordeaux- and local Italian varietals.
